Wandering - Desmond by Namecchan Wandering - Desmond by Namecchan
aka "out of my comfort zone".
As you may have noticed, I don't usually do background. That's because I suck at it, I find perspective very, very hard and I'm more interested in the human figure.
At the same time, it's good to try something new, isn't it?

I probably should have chosen something a little bit easier for my first bg, but I'm quite satisfied with it, and I think it's apt for a wandering Desmond, snuck out to explore the city... C;

I just... love this so much. I don't normally like the soft-focus look, but for this.. the almost dreamy sense of being in but not a part of 'real life' is just perfect. it's not helped by the little 'everything is permitted' sign, or the coffee shop prices including 'Shaun' 'Rebecca' and 'Malik'!

Thank you so much. Really.
This is the kind of feelings I wanted to convey with this drawing, and I'm happy you felt that "atmosphere"! C:

Thank you! <3

I'm not going to pretend to expertly know what I'm talking about since I didn't pursue a degree in the arts.... but I know that your techniques of a slightly blurred and less-detailed background, paired with a reasonably sharp and detailed foreground, with vanishing points and light projection are pretty solid.

There are some things that I feel really shows your attention to detail and consistency. It's raining and the puddle where Desmond steps is rippled/distorted... but because of the cobblestones, the puddle size is appropriate. And the water alongside the downward-sloping curbside actually has the illusion of flowing downwards and spreading out towards the bottom of the picture (the foreground). You can even see the reflections on the top of the canopy of the espresso stand. :)

Btw, though i realize you didn't type 'Espresso' or 'Cappuccino', I like the font/style of the letterings. The hand-written menus in the espresso stand are also... well... 'hand-written'! 「⇧リンゴ あっち」 Hah!!! ;)

Don't worry, I didn't pursue a degree in art either, so I won't dissect your comment! C;
I'm happy you don't find the prespective too 'off'; I know it's not perfect, but it was my first (and last, basically) background, so I was overall satisfied! C:
And thanks for noticing all the details! Especially the リンゴ one! C: You're the first one to spot that! <3
Mostly, I'm happy you like the handwritten parts, because my dad (one of my most harsh critics) totally loads them... C; (but my mum likes it, so I guess it makes it even... C; )

I see Italy, I see Desmond, I see a notebook with Assassin's symbol.

Good! C:
Other than that, I remember that there is a poster saying "Nothing is true, everything is permitted", another one saying "For the apple, go there" in Japanese, and the menu at the bar says you can also buy Shauns, Rebeccas, Lucys and Desmonds... C;
