Wandering - Desmond by Namecchan Wandering - Desmond by Namecchan
aka "out of my comfort zone".
As you may have noticed, I don't usually do background. That's because I suck at it, I find perspective very, very hard and I'm more interested in the human figure.
At the same time, it's good to try something new, isn't it?

I probably should have chosen something a little bit easier for my first bg, but I'm quite satisfied with it, and I think it's apt for a wandering Desmond, snuck out to explore the city... C;

I just... love this so much. I don't normally like the soft-focus look, but for this.. the almost dreamy sense of being in but not a part of 'real life' is just perfect. it's not helped by the little 'everything is permitted' sign, or the coffee shop prices including 'Shaun' 'Rebecca' and 'Malik'!

Fantastic!

Thank you so much. Really.
This is the kind of feelings I wanted to convey with this drawing, and I'm happy you felt that "atmosphere"! C:

Thank you! <3

I'm not going to pretend to expertly know what I'm talking about since I didn't pursue a degree in the arts.... but I know that your techniques of a slightly blurred and less-detailed background, paired with a reasonably sharp and detailed foreground, with vanishing points and light projection are pretty solid.

There are some things that I feel really shows your attention to detail and consistency. It's raining and the puddle where Desmond steps is rippled/distorted... but because of the cobblestones, the puddle size is appropriate. And the water alongside the downward-sloping curbside actually has the illusion of flowing downwards and spreading out towards the bottom of the picture (the foreground). You can even see the reflections on the top of the canopy of the espresso stand. :)

Btw, though i realize you didn't type 'Espresso' or 'Cappuccino', I like the font/style of the letterings. The hand-written menus in the espresso stand are also... well... 'hand-written'! 「⇧リンゴ あっち」 Hah!!! ;)

Don't worry, I didn't pursue a degree in art either, so I won't dissect your comment! C;
I'm happy you don't find the prespective too 'off'; I know it's not perfect, but it was my first (and last, basically) background, so I was overall satisfied! C:
And thanks for noticing all the details! Especially the リンゴ one! C: You're the first one to spot that! <3
Mostly, I'm happy you like the handwritten parts, because my dad (one of my most harsh critics) totally loads them... C; (but my mum likes it, so I guess it makes it even... C; )

Good! C:
Other than that, I remember that there is a poster saying "Nothing is true, everything is permitted", another one saying "For the apple, go there" in Japanese, and the menu at the bar says you can also buy Shauns, Rebeccas, Lucys and Desmonds... C;

There are those for everyone and everything. Some for the fan favourites of AC would be very cool. They could be shoots too, I don't mind.

Per essere il tuo primo background, non niente male.
Mi piace l'aspetto un po' grezzo e sfocato, contribuisce molto bene a creare l'effetto pioggia.

You're welcome! I usually don't comment at all (I mean I can actually count with my hands the number of times I've actually commented on a dA artwork), but your work was definitely awesome and worth it. I'd love to see more of your deviations!

I see what you mean about the "blurriness" of the pic, because at first I wanted something sharper and more realistic myself... But I kinda like how it turned out, so for this time I say I'm satisfied! XD

You're welcome sweetie! :3
It's a really good painting no doubt about that, so you should be proud! :D And I know this kind of painting would look really good hanging on a wall and looked something like 2 or 3 meters away, but when looking from 50cm away on a supersharp screen the blurr just gets a tiny bit on the way XD

I'm glad to hear that! I'm always afraid to give people any concrit, since so very often people take it as a personal insult XDD

The Assassin Emblem, Coffee Creed and the Assassins' motto above the coffee stand's umbrellas are the most obvious to me.

Yeah, thanks for indulging me with this guessing game! X3
You did spot almost everything (a "25€ rare Malik", "3£ Shaun" and "3$ Rebecca" are almost invisible on the chalkboards, so they don't really count), beside the fact that the Japanese characters next to the yellow arrow say "Apple, this way"... C;

I had a feeling I missed some things though I went after the most obvious. I also found many of the video file encryptions for The Truth to be a comparable challenge to this.

Haha, now you're just flattering me! (..........nothing against it, honestly! C; )

Anyway, I had to make the pic smaller, and the fact I've used smudgy chalk brushes to paint it doesn't really help seeing all the small details! C;

flattery has its uses and I honestly enjoy flattering an artist who has made an artwork I find visually engaging.

the details can be quite open and others can be small. The hardest Truth encryptions were often ones rooted in small details also.

I imagine with ACIII coming out next week on consoles - there'll be more AC artwork to fill out your gallery.

<: Thanks. When flattery isn't empty, I always stop call it "flattery" and go with "praise"! C; (and yep. I'm guilty of flattering artists I like as well, especially if they're as self-conscious as I am...xD)

Love your eye for details anyway! I always enjoy finding what a picture/game/film is trying to say through the details laying around! C:

And yep, you're right! C: I guess there will be more AC art not only because of ACIII, but because it's my latest obsession! XD (plus I find everything AC-related visually pleasing... <: )

I also enjoy certain video game soundtracks. Especially the work of the Jesper Kyd on AC soundtracks. Not too liking of Lorne Balfe's collaboration with Jesper on AC:R soundtrack. It looks like Balfe has gone solo for ACIII though. I don't know how that will affect ACIII though given the game's memories will be in America that gives an opportunity to do something new and fresh with the music I hope.

AC does inspire a great many wonderful artworks so flattery or praise... I find myself enjoying whatever quality art comes from the mediums that lead to their creation.
